Vienne and Saint-Romain-en-Gal

Sharing 2,500 years of history

The heart of Vienne is packed with buildings bearing witness to its historic importance from Roman times on. Across the Rhône stand the archaeological site and Gallo-Roman Museum of St-Romain-en-Gal.

Vienne, a little Rhône-side city, offers a wonderful journey back in time. The town boasts over 40 listed historic monuments and sights, hence its designation as a Ville d’Art et d’Histoire. From the ancient Temple to Augustus and Livia or the Cybèle Gardens to St Maurice’s Cathedral, you’ll find fine examples of architecture from different eras. You can try an original tour of town by bike or on a segway. In summer, the Roman theatre hosts one of Europe’s most prestigious jazz festivals.
