Natural Highlights

The Rhône has long been exploited for navigation, energy and industrial uses. Today, a movement is underway to protect and enhance the river’s most precious and endangered natural zones. ViaRhôna leads you to many of the most remarkable natural sites and areas in the Rhône Valley. As the natural zones signalled below are often fragile environments, please take care of them!

Special natural areas along the Rhône

Along ViaRhôna, or close to the route, there are many remarkable natural areas to explore, each with its own specific character. Lying beside the mighty Rhône, these sensitive spaces include lônes (old branches of the river), marshes and islands, offering lovely nature walks on which you can admire trees and flowers, birds and mammals, even pebbles and fossils.
