2 days through small lakeside ports and spa towns
Saint-Gingolph, the starting point of the itinerary, is located on the banks of Lake Geneva, on the French side. A link between France and Switzerland, the lake's microclimate favours the development of southern vegetation. The ViaRhôna starts along the French shoreline where you can admire the beauty and vastness of the lake, as well as its villages and spa towns including Evian-les-Bains, Thonon-les-Bains, and the medieval village of Yvoire. A beautiful stretch of the ViaRhôna recommended for experienced cyclists!
Day 1 : Saint-Gingolph - Thonon-les-Bains
On the banks of Lake Geneva, Saint-Gingolph marks the official start of the ViaRhôna. One of a kind, the village straddles the border of France and Switzerland. Along the lake, you'll discover Evian and its Palais Lumière, Cachat spring, and Pré Curieux gardens. Labeled a 4-star "France Nautical Station", Thonon has plenty of water activities on offer. Be sure to see Ripaille Château, a cultural and wine site. Be careful, from Saint-Gingolph to Evian, the route is reserved for experienced cyclists. For families with children, we strongly recommend starting the itinerary in Evian or Thonon.

In Sciez, visit the Aigles du Léman eagle park. The beach in Excenevex is the only natural sandy beach on the lake. Be sure to stop in the medieval village of Yvoire, one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France. Its Cinq Sens garden of five senses is recognised as a Unique and Remarkable Garden.
