Montélimar
A foretaste of Provence
With its wide provençal-style boulevards, the French capital of nougat has long been known as a classic stop on the way south, while lavender and truffles proliferate nearby.
Stroll around the historic centre’s cobbled streets and enjoy the many tourist sights appealing to all ages scattered around Montélimar. At the top of town stands the medieval Château des Adhémar, now a contemporary art centre hosting prestigious temporary exhibitions. For fun with all the family, there are the nougat-making houses or the Palais de Bonbons, dedicated to sweets – these places delight the taste-buds and imagination of young and old alike!
Continue a little south and you arrive in the Drôme Provençale, presaging Provence, passing through the wonderful vine country of Grignan-les-Adhémar.
