Current Works on ViaRhona
- Stage: Aigues-Mortes → Palavas-les-Flots
Route closure between Aigues-Mortes and Le Grau-du-Roi from January 20, 2025, to late May 2025
Due to work on renewing the wastewater transfer pipeline along the Rhône to Sète canal between Aigues-Mortes and Le Grau-du-Roi, this section of ViaRhôna will be closed to cyclists and pedestrians until the end of May.
A detour route is provided for cyclists along RD 979 via Inforoute 30 (see detour map), including evenings and weekends. Please note that there are no dedicated cycling facilities on this busy departmental road, so exercise caution!
La Marette, the Grand Site de France visitor center in the Gardoise Camargue, remains accessible during the works.
An assessment is being conducted for the safety improvements of the Evian - Publier section between 2023 and 2024. Further details on schedules and outcomes will follow in 2024.
Development of a section of ViaRhôna between Port de Sciez and Nernier (7.3 km). This development will be phased between 2024 and 2027.
Thonon Agglomération is also implementing its cycling master plan (expected in the first quarter of 2024), and construction of ViaRhôna is scheduled by 2026 with sections in dedicated lanes.
Annemasse Agglo will see an alternative route of ViaRhôna by 2026 - 2027 to bypass Geneva.
ViaRhôna will soon have a new 20 km route between Etrembières and Machilly! This new cycling route will traverse the Machilly area to Etrembières and is expected to be fully operational by 2026.
[November 2023]: Public utility declarations are currently being prepared, and the project is progressing.
Development of ViaRhôna in the municipalities of Chavanoz, Villette d’Anthon, and Anthon is completed.
- In 2023: Enhancing route visibility and improving the crossing of RD55 (plateau) in Chavanoz.
- In 2024 (fall): Development of the riverside section in Anthon (subject to permits). Studies continue on the Chavanoz - Saint-Romain-de-Jalionas link.
