Palavas-les-Flots / Sète
From Palavas-les-Flots, close to the bigger city of Montpellier, the itinerary is winding between beaches and saltwater lagoons. Do not miss the Maguelone Cathedrale where you will glimpse at the massif of Gardioles covered with its garrigues. A shellfish tasting while sipping a glass of "Muscat de Frontignan" will be your rewards for this last stage of the ViaRhôna. The arrival to the Sète Harbor, at the edge of the Etang de Thau, marks the end of the adventure.
The route
From Palavas-les-Flots, you’ll ride around the Arnel lagoon, passing through Villeneuve-lès-Maguelone before reaching Mireval via a country road through fields and vineyards. From Vic-la-Gardiole onwards, a pine-shaded greenway leads you to Aresquiers beach, then follows the seafront all the way to Frontignan. Before arriving in the distinctive town of Sète, you pass through an unsecured section with traffic (take care).
Connection
From Sète, you can cycle around the Etang de Thau, a 60 km loop entirely on cycle paths and greenways. The lagoon is a constant presence throughout the route. You can also take the shuttle boat between Sète and Balaruc-les-Bains to shorten the distance.
