From Lake Geneva to the Mediterranean at your own pace
ViaRhôna has a grand ambition – to lead you by bike, beside the Rhône River, from Lake Geneva to France’s Mediterranean beaches! This 815km cycle route, still in progress, leads the cyclist from Alpine panoramas to Camargue beaches across emblematic landscapes of the Cotes du Rhône vineyards and those of the southern Provence: hilltop villages, lavender or olive tree fields, gastronomic discoveries. ViaRhôna cycle route spreads more than 2000 years of history and heritage treasures alternating secure greenways and shared paths.
Well worth visiting Marshes Nature Reserve Vigueirat, allow 1-2 hours, they have shade for picnic, cold drinks and ice cream. Pick up lunch in Arles for this section as nothing until Port-Saint-Louis. I would recommend cycling back to Arles for the train, even if into the wind. Cycling to Fos-mer a nightmare of heavy industrial roads and pollution. You might be able to get a bus that takes bikes otherwise. Wind, the Mistral, tends to blow behind you going South which also cools you. Fast final route on good paths.
